This month, we are featuring a Baby Boomer Lifestyle Interview with one of our own boomers, Dan. Dan and his company, Impact Design, created this website. Here is my interview with Dan.

Me:   So Dan, at 65, what physical activities do you still engage in?

Dan:  Running, weight training, scuba diving, brisk walks twice a day with my dog Ernie, a Doberman. I do all the same things that I did 20 years ago. I rarely think of my age as a limit. Most people are surprised to find out that I am 65, they guess me at 50.

Me:  How often do you run or dive, and do you follow any special diet?

Dan:  I run 3-5 times/week, about 3 miles each time. I dive whenever I can but not often enough. In the summer, I try to go once a week.   I follow the Mediterranean diet, no junk food, no soft drinks, no candy.

Me:  You also run a web design business. Do you feel that your level of physical wellness has any impact on the stress of running a business?

Dan:  Absolutely! If I could not run after a day of staring at a computer screen I would probably go crazy. Also, long periods of sitting without exercise is not good for the body, so a good run at the end of the day is very beneficial.

Me:  What advice do you have for other boomers, in terms of being healthier, happier and living longer?

Dan:  Diet and exercise is important but also is having fun, laughing and keeping your mind young. Spend time playing with your grandchildren. Not just bouncing them on your knee, but getting on the floor and building things with their blocks or playing hide and seek with them. Listen to them when they tell you things, and see those things through a child’s eyes.
